University of West Florida taps Bitner to serve as Assistant Professor of Computer Science

The University of West Florida has selected Steven Bitner, Ph.D., to serve as Assistant Professor of Computer Science in its Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering. In addition to teaching in higher education, Dr. Bitner brings 10 years of experience as a software engineer in companies in private industry as well as the public sector.

Previously, Dr. Bitner was the Chief Architect of First Principle Innovators in Kansas City, Missouri. Prior to joining First Principle Innovations in 2015, he was a Senior Software Developer for Answers Corporation, serving as the team lead for a number of owned and operated websites with over 100 million unique visitors per month.  

He has been a member of the military. From 2010 to 2013, he was an Operations Research Analyst for the United States Army's TRADOC Analysis Center in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. From 2013 to 2017, he was an Informational Professional Officer in the United States Navy Reserves.

Dr. Bitner served on the faculty at the University of Missouri in Kansas City. He taught web development and computer programming.

He holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science from Texas State University - San Marcos. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Dallas. His dissertation was entitled “Proximity Problems in Two and Three Dimensional Euclidean Space.”
