Scott Behrens joins Northwest Florida State College as VP for Teaching and Learning

Northwest Florida State College has named Scott Behrens, Ph.D. as the Vice President for Teaching and Learning after a national search. Dr. Behrens brings more than 19 years of experience in higher education to this leadership post and will join the college on January 3, 2018.

Since 2012, Dr. Behrens has served as Dean of Associate in Arts Programs at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Florida. Previously, he was Dean of Academic Affairs and Operations at South University in Novi, Michigan, where he was responsible for the development of all academic programming and leading the campus SACSCOC accreditation process.

Upon completing his doctorate in 1999, he accepted a full-time teaching position at Adrian College, a private liberal arts college in rural Michigan, where he earned tenure and was promoted to Chair of the Teacher Education Department.  Dr. Behrens developed significant partnerships with the areas private and public schools, colleges, and universities to improve the development of Michigan’s future teachers. 

Dr. Behrens holds a doctorate in Educational Psychology from the University of Florida, a Master of Arts in School Psychology from the University of Arizona, and a Bachelor of Arts from McDaniel College in Maryland.
