Fort Valley State University (FVSU) President Paul Jones announced today that Dr. Timothy L. Hatchett will be joining the university as the new vice president for the Office of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management effective October 25.

Dr. Hatchett comes to FVSU from the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) in Washington, DC, where he currently serves as assistant vice president for student success. Since 2014, he has provided day to day leadership and direction for the UDC Office of Student Success and Programming supporting 4,500 students; leading a team of 45 faculty and staff members across multiple departments; and managing a $4.5 million dollar budget. During his tenure at UDC, his professional highlights include improving first to second-year student retention by 2% annually from 2016 to the present; and designing and implementing the University Student Success Model and Lifecycle.

Previously, Dr. Hatchett served in a series of student affairs roles at a variety of college campuses including the Graduate School USA in Washington, DC where he was director of enrollment management and student services; and Saint Leo University in Marietta, GA where he served as the assistant director of admissions. In addition, he holds a Master of Public Administration in Education from Troy State University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science from Clark-Atlanta University.

In response to his new role at FVSU, Dr. Hatchett said: “I look forward to meeting and engaging with the students, faculty and staff. I want to learn everything I can about Fort Valley State University, the community, the region, and the state. It is my mission to engage every student and cultivate academic success, wellness, and personal and professional growth from recruitment to graduation and beyond. We must immerse ourselves into where students live, recognize their challenges, and support the cultural traditions they embody. I am eager and ready to work alongside all university stakeholders to continue to advance a culture of success throughout campus.”

The search committee for the vice president position was chaired by FVSU Dean of University College, Dr. Kimberly Andrews.

In a statement to the campus community, President Jones said, “I would like to thank Interim Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, Dr. Maria A. Lumpkin, who has been extremely instrumental in leading our commitment to student-centeredness during this transitional period.”
