Georgia Southern University selects Reiber to serve as Provost and VPAA

Georgia Southern University has announced the appointment of Carl L. Reiber, Ph.D., to the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, effective July 1, 2018. He brings more than 30 years of experience in higher education to the academic leadership post.

Dr. Reiber is currently the Senior Vice Provost at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Over his more than 20-year career at UNLV, he has held numerous administrative positions, including Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, Director of General Education, Associate Dean of the College of Sciences, Director of the School of Life Sciences, and Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences.

Dr. Reiber serves on the Governor's Committee for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and has extensive experience in large statewide grant management. In addition to his ongoing engagement with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) — National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) — IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) and NIH CTR-IN grants (Clinical and Transnational Research - Integrative Network), a percentage of his time has been allocated to administer the Nevada State System of Higher Education (NSHE) Nevada (NV) UNLV Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) STEM grant.

Along with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, he earned his Master of Science degree in Microbial, Molecular, and Cellular Biology from Georgia Mason University in Virginia. After receiving his Ph.D. degree in Zoology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, he was a Post-Graduate Fellow in Zoology at the University of Florida.
