Savannah State Selects Scipio to Serve as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences
Savannah, Ga. -- Savannah State University has appointed Julius E. Scipio, Ed.D., as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. Dr. Scipio brings more than 28 years of experience in higher education administration to this leadership position.
Dr. Scipio joined Savannah State in 2015 as Interim Associate Provost and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs. In January 2016, he became Interim Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, being named the Dean after a national search.
Prior to joining Savannah State, he served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs of Virginia Union University from 2012 to 2015. Previously, he held academic leadership roles for 15 years at Fort Valley State University in Georgia and five years at Voorhees College in South Carolina. His career also includes terms at LeMoyne-Owen College, the University of Memphis, and Memphis State University, all in Tennessee.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology at Paine College in Augusta, Georgia and the Master of Science degree in educational administration and supervision and the Doctor of Education degree in higher education at Memphis State University. He served as president of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at Memphis State University for 1994-95.
