Augusta University selects Heslen for Cybersecurity Center

Augusta University has selected John Heslen to serve in its new Cybersecurity Center with an appointment in the James M. Hull College of Business. Mr. Heslen brings to his new position 18 years of experience in the U.S. Intelligence Community as both an Air Force Intelligence Officer and Civilian intelligence analyst, with subject matter expertise in counter-terrorism and strategic cyber-intelligence analysis.

Mr. Heslen is currently a Strategic Cyber Intelligence Analyst with the United States Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) at the Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia. He has worked with the AFOSI since 2003. In 2012 he was recognized as the AFOSI Region 5 Senior Civilian of the Year. He also was a recipient of the 2006, 2008, and 2011 AFOSI Team of the Year Award.
 

Prior to entering civilian service with the military, Mr. Heslen served six years in the United States Air Force, where he was an intelligence Officer. He holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the USAF-Reserve.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Georgia and a Master of Arts degree in International Relations from the University of Oklahoma. Expected completion of his Ph.D. degree in Organizational Leadership at the University of Oklahoma is August 2016.
