Methodist University announces that it has named Greg Swanson as Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Senior Counsel after a national search. Swanson, who earned a Juris Doctor from Creighton University School of Law in Omaha, Nebraska and a bachelor’s degree from Creighton as well, has two decades of experience in higher education and most recently served as Vice President for College Relations and General Counsel at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, N.C.
“We are delighted that Greg Swanson is joining our leadership team,” Methodist University President Dr. Stan Wearden said. “Greg brings to us a wealth of experience and deep expertise in university advancement and philanthropy. He has a reputation for collegiality and a high level of professionalism and ethical practice. We look forward to his transformative leadership as we continue our efforts to help Methodist University thrive now and in the future.”
At Belmont Abbey, Swanson served as chief development officer since 2012, overseeing all giving programs and successfully launching a $27 million capital campaign. He helped the school exceed the record for leadership level gifts. He also served as chief institutional legal officer, providing oversight, direction, and counsel to the governing board and the administration regarding compliance issues and external litigation.
“I look forward to working with Dr. Wearden to continue building a culture of philanthropy in support of the mission of Methodist University,” Swanson said. “It is a privilege to join an outstanding team dedicated to making the University a place for students to experience an exceptional liberal arts education.”
