National University names Farquharson as Chair of the Department of Nursing

National University has selected Hope Farquharson, Ph.D., to serve as Chair of the Department of Nursing.  In addition to her clinical experience, she brings nearly 20 years of experience in nursing education in colleges and universities.

In 2017, Dr. Farquharson became an Assistant Professor of Nursing at National University, after serving 11 years on the university’s core adjunct faculty in the BSN program. In September that year, she was named the Interim Assistant Chair/Director of Nursing for the BSN, RN to BSN, and Graduate Programs and became the Interim Chair in May of 2018.

Previously, she held several leadership positions at Palomar College in San Marcos, Calif., including Associate Professor and College Student Learning Outcomes Coordinator, Director/Chair of Nursing, and Assistant Director/Chair of Nursing. Her career includes teaching at University of Oklahoma College of Nursing, San Diego, Calif.; Mt. San Jacinto College, Menifee, Calif.; and Maric College, San Diego, Calif.

Dr. Farquharson earned her Bachelor of Nursing, with a public health certificate, and Master of Science in Nursing degrees from California State University, Dominguez Hills. She holds a Ph.D. in Nursing Education and Research from the University of San Diego.

She is on the editorial board for Comprehensive Nursing Research and Care Journal and reviews nursing research articles for Hispanic Health Care International Nursing Journal. Additionally, she is a reviewer for Scholarly Work for the Western Institute of Nursing Research Conferences.
