Southern Utah University selects Boreen to serve as Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences
Southern Utah University has announced the appointment of Jean Boreen, Ph.D. as the next Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. She will assume her new position on July 1, 2018.
Dr. Boreen currently serves as the Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Letters at Northern Arizona University, where she is a Full Professor of English Education. Her career at the university has include service as a faculty member, department chair, associate dean, and interim dean. She has demonstrated a commitment to engaged and interdisciplinary pedagogies. Prior to her full-time career in higher education, she taught in public high schools and a middle school.
Dr. Boreen has an impressive array of service and teaching recognitions. A frequent presenter at state, regional, and national conferences, she has influenced education and teachers through her books, book chapters, video series, and consulting. She has been honored three times with the Distinguished Service Award from the Arizona English Teachers Association.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Secondary Education and her Master of Arts degree in English from Iowa State University. In 1995, she received her Ph.D. in English Education from The University of Iowa.
