Dan McAlexander, D.M.A.
Dr. Dan McAlexander joined Myers McRae as a search consultant after a distinguished career in higher education. His tremendous knowledge of and leadership experience in colleges and universities enables him to provide valuable insight to search committees.
Throughout his leadership career, Dr. McAlexander has had a reputation as an effective builder of executive leadership teams. He is excited to now turn this ability toward helping other institutions to recruit the most fitting leaders to take them successfully to robust futures.
Until recently, he served as President of LaGrange College, which has been named repeatedly a top-five institution in annual rankings among 122 regional colleges in the South by U.S. News & World Report. During Dr. McAlexander’s tenure of leadership, the private Georgia college experienced significant growth in enrollment, completion of major capital improvements to the campus, and development of a number of unique college distinctions.
Prior to LaGrange, he served as Provost and Chief Operating Officer at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., where he administered the Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Enrollment divisions during an eight-year period of unprecedented 66% enrollment growth. Previously, at Hardin-Simmons University, where he was a Professor of Music, he was tapped to lead institutional strategic planning and to serve as Dean of the 19 program Graduate Division, which also saw significant growth under his leadership.
A graduate of the University of Kansas, he received his master’s in music from The Julliard School and his Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music.
