William W. Kelly

William W. "Bill" Kelly, Ph.D., has had a long and distinguished career in higher education. He has been President of the Georgia Foundation for Independent Colleges, the Alabama Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, Mary Baldwin College and Transylvania University.

Dr. Kelly has been Chair of the Board of the Alabama Humanities Foundation and the Georgia Humanities Council, both in affiliation with the National Endowment for the Humanities. He currently serves on the boards of Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa, He is a Senior Fellow with the Foundation for Independent HIgher Education, of which he is a former Presiding Officer.

Dr. Kelly is a Distinguished Military Graduate of the Virginia Military Institute and earned his Master of Arts and Ph.D. in English from Duke University.  A specialist in Southern literature, he has taught at VMI, the United States Air Force Academy, and Michigan State University, where he also was Director of the Honors College.
